Bug description

I'm currently using version 3.6.2.548020600, as I can't update under mac OS 10.14.6 (mojave).

I'm encountering a systematic bug: when I want to type an accent in a text box and hold down the corresponding letter key to select the accented letter, for example "é" or "à", the unaccented letter repeats itself ad infinitum until I stop holding down the key. So I try to select as quickly as possible and then delete the long string of useless letters.
This bothers me enormously as I'm currently picking up traditional Greek music and there are a lot of accents in this language as it's the accents that often determine the grammatical role or meaning of a word.

Steps to reproduce

  1. go to any text field
  2. try to select accent by holding letter key like an "a" to write "à"
  3. you'll see letter "a" is going to be replicated till you stop holding key a

This is a Qt bug; for example Dorico also suffers from it, last time I checked.
Since the problem lies in Qt, I'm not sure whether we will be able to fix it in the short term.

As a workaround, you can press OptionE followed by E to type an "é", or Option` (for me, that is the key next to the Z key) followed by A to type an "à".

(By the way, it should be possible to use MuseScore 4.x on macOS Mojave. Only Muse Hub does not work on older OSs. You can still use the "Download MuseScore without Muse Hub" option on MuseScore.org.)

Closing as superseded by #24790 (the situation has changed since Qt 6)
