Welcome to the tomboy-ng download page

This is not the current release, please see the Wiki Release Page

Select your Package

  • Linux users really should look at https://github.com/tomboy-notes/tomboy-ng/wiki/System-Requirements before downloading, selecting the right package is a touch complicated. Note there are 32bit and 64bit versions, GTK2 and Qt5 varieties.
  • Windows users should download the Windows Installer, the .exe file, it works for both 32 and 64bit installs. Windows Defender will (quite rightly) tell you it stopped an unrecogonized app, warning its risky. Click "More Info" and you will see a "Run Anyway". Now you will be asked if you want to allow an unknown publisher (me!) to change your device. If you do, click yes.
  • Mac Users - Download the 64bit dmg file, it is Cocoa based and probably your best bet unless you are running relatively old (and slow) hardware. The 32bit Carbon based one will not work on the newest MasOS but is somewhat faster. Install by double clicking the .dmg file and drag the tomboy-ng icon into the nearby Applications Folder. First time users will need to control click the tomboy-ng icon in Applications and select "Open". Have had a report of difficulties with that first start, even with the Control Click, please report !

Installation
Please see the Installation Notes relating to Linux, Windows and the Mac at https://github.com/tomboy-notes/tomboy-ng/wiki/System-Requirements
Whats New ?

  • http or https links now supported. Note a 'propper' URL is required, including the 'http://' or 'https://'
  • A tomboy-ng main menu now appears on Search, Settings, Splash and each open note.
  • Starting a second instance now pops up the first instance. Usable on systems that don't display trayicon.
  • Restarting an open note brings it to current workspace (Linux).
  • Now a Linux Qt5 version, less libraries needed on some systems.
  • Very HiDPI better supported.
  • Links a bit easier to see in a dark theme.
  • A number of bug fixes including fixing a pasting issue near end of note; we now report on version number in a Mac acceptable way; notes and config now stored in a Mac acceptable place (Macs are so fussy!); links no longer change their case as they appear; an obscure sync dir issue;

Welcome to the tomboy-ng download page

Please note there is a later release - https://github.com/tomboy-notes/tomboy-ng/releases/latest

Select your Package

  • Linux users should use the Deb or RPM if they can (the gzip is just the binary, no help files, icons etc). Deb users should use gdebi to install the downloaded file. Fedora or openSUSE users need to see https://github.com/tomboy-notes/tomboy-ng/wiki/System-Requirements

Now you will be asked if you want to allow an unknown publisher (me!) to change your device. If you do, click yes.
  • Mac Users - despite Apple's complaints and threats, the 32bit dmg will work fine. However, apart from printing, the 64bit Cocoa version is probably almost as good ! But it is slower than the 32bit one and this may be noticeable with large notes on slow hardware. First time users (of either) will need to control click and select "Open". Drag the tomboy-ng icon into the nearby Applications Folder.

Installation
Please see the Installation Notes relating to Linux, Windows and the Mac at https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Tomboy/tomboy-ng/DownLoadInstall

Whats New ?

  • Important bug fix where the file sync was not compatible with Tomboy's.
  • Better decision making where multiple libappindicator libraries are present (Linux).
  • Now know how to get reliable System Tray Icon on RedHat and openSUSE.
  • When a note is closed, its size and placement is saved and restored (given suitable screen dimensions).
  • When tomboy-ng is closed with one or notes still opened, those notes will be reopened on re-start.
  • All displayed text (except some debugging) is now under control of i18N and can easily be translated to languages other than English.
  • Improved layout of some windows to allow additional room for larger text.

Testing Only tomboy-dark-test.zip contains just a win64 executable, based on V0.23 but with some fixes to test a means to display dark mode while we wait until Microsoft implement a full dark mode. See issue #93. Its incomplete and unpleasant to look at but .....

Just want the libhunspell.dll ? Then download the windows 64bit package and discard (sob!) the tomboy-ng binary. Please note I don't provide and don't have a 32bit hunspell library for Windows.

  • Windows 32bit - I have not made a formal installer for 32bit, so download the zip files, unzip and drag the tomboy-ng folder onto your eg desktop and launch from the executable in there. If there are 32bit users out there, yell out ! Note I am no longer testing 32bit Windows but believe its working...
  • Mac Users - despite Apple's complaints and threats, the 32bit dmg will work fine. However, apart from printing, the 64bit Cocoa version is probably almost as good ! • A small set of help files covering much of what a new user may need.
  • A calculation ability, type 3 + 4 = and hit Ctrl E and tomboy-ng fills in the answer. Thats the simple mode, also possible to do complex mathmatical expressions and to total up a column of numbers. See the help note.
  • A number of small performance improvements and a few bug fixes.

Just want the libhunspell.dll ? Then download the windows 64bit package and discard (sob!) the tomboy-ng binary. Please note I don't provide and don't have a 32bit hunspell library.

Welcome to the tomboy-ng download page

Select your Package

  • Linux users should use the Deb or RPM if they can, the gzip is just the binary, no help files etc.
  • Windows - select one of the zip files, note I am no longer testing against 32bit Windows but believe its working...
  • Mac Users - despite Apple's complaints and threats, the 32bit dmg will work fine. Try the 64bit one if you are feeling adventurous. First time users (of either) will need to control click and select "Open".

Installation
Please see the Installation Notes relating to Linux, Windows and the Mac at https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Tomboy/tomboy-ng/DownLoadInstall

Whats New ?

  • If (and only if) you are a Linux users, we now have a Sync to Tomdroid on your Android phone solution. Please see https://github.com/tomboy-notes/tomboy-ng/wiki/Tomdroid-Sync
  • Much nicer looking and better behaving Bullets. Active or cancel bullets with Alt-RightArrow and Alt-LeftArrow on all platforms.
  • Links to other notes are now case insensitive, and a name, to be linked needs to be surrounded by "white-ish space". If you don't like this decision, please let me know and it can be made optional.
  • A setting to hide the small splash screen at startup. Unless tomboy-ng encounters a bad note or you add the -g switch from the command line.
  • Show 'headings' in a note, (similar to a Tomboy Plugin), Tools->Index and click to scroll to that heading.
  • Manually configuring spell check is greatly improved.
  • The ability to export a note in the Markdown wiki format. (Honestly, for my convenience but others may find it handy too).
  • More appropriate keyboard shortcuts on the mac. Mostly driven from Command Key but see docs.

Just want the libhunspell.dll ? Then download the windows 64bit package and discard (sob!) the tomboy-ng binary. Please note I don't provide and don't have a 32bit hunspell library.

tomboy-ng v0.19 release

Pre-release

Welcome to the tomboy-ng download page

Select your Package

  • Linux users should use the Deb or RPM if they can, the gzip is just the binary, no help files etc.
  • Windows - select one of the zip files, not I am no longer testing against 32bit Windows but believe its working...
  • Mac Users - despite Apple's complaints and threats, the 32bit dmg will work fine. Try the 64bit one if you are feeling adventurous. First time users (of either) will need to control click and select "Open".

New Features

  • A rewritten sync engine, written to enable easy plugging in new transport layers. Using some new ideas to allow re-syncing without detecting lots of false sync clashes. I believe more stable, easier to debug and more resilient. It also shows you, in a much clearer manner, whats going on during a sync. Re-Joining a sync is no longer trumatic and it should be a little faster. Its still 100% Tomboy compatible (I believe) but if you do use Tomboy and tomboy-ng on the one file sync repo, you will loose that speed advantage.
  • Tools to manage Backups. Tomboy and tomboy-ng create backup files whenever you delete a note or overwrite one during a sync. These notes stay there until you intervene. tomboy-ng now allows you to view, restore of delete such files.
  • Snapshots, you can now take a snapshot of your notes and config and restore to exactly that state. Or view (and copy) individual notes out of a snapshot. This feature may be useful when reinstalling operating systems, setting up new systems and, obviously as a backup measure in case something goes wrong.
  • Much fussier about valid xml in your note files. An error is mentioned on splash screen, go to Config->Snapshots->ExistingNotes to (possibly) fix any error.
  • Our experimental 64bit Mac release is back, surprisingly functional but not extensively tested. Regular mac users are advised to stick with the 32bit system for the time being.
  • Much of the Tomboy set of control keys now supported.
  • Many bugs and 'surprises' have been fixed and this release is probably the more thoroughly tested than any previous one.

tomboy-ng release v0.18

Pre-release

Another bug fix driven release I am afraid. This release was rushed out when I became aware of two bugs that could cost end user access to a note. Specifically -

  • A sync clash happens when two computers have changes to a note with out a sync between them. If you don't sync often, its what happens. The sync engine will ask you to decide what to do. In previous releases, I offered you a choice of do nothing, use the note on the server, or the note on the local machine. However, I have discovered that my 'doNothing' option is dangerous in that under certain circumstances, your choice (relating to that note) may be ignored. I have removed the do nothing option.

  • If you use an ampersand, '&' in a note title and have a Unicode in the text ahead of it, it may fail to save correctly.

New Features
If you get a sync clash (see above), you now get a much more informative dialog, it tries to show you the difference between the two versions of the note you must decide on.
You can now choose search options directly from the search window, click 'mode'.

Release v0.17

Release v0.17 Pre-release
Pre-release

Note : binaries slightly updated, (to v0.17b) mainly to accommodate Gnome3.26 and its war on SystemTray Icons and fix a Unicode bug

Mainly a bug fix release, this deals with a couple of bugs that creep into our feature rich previous release and it deals with two that have existed from day one ! A couple of new things however -

  • Management tools to work with the Backup notes, delete, view, even restore. Backup notes are made when you delete a note or overwrite one as part of sync. Notes you believe are long gone may still be there.

  • A report is shown on start up on how many notes you have and alerts you if any one of them were not successfully indexed. If you see such an error message, please see the help file (man page for Linux, in the install kit for Windows and Mac or the wiki) for instructions on how to identify the offending note.

  • Bugs fixed include : you can now include &, " and ' in note titles without a sync error (thanks Erik) and some tagging issues relating to fixed spacing fonts. These bugs could make a note unreadable so please update.

Installation

Release v0.16a

28 Jul 07:42
Compare
Choose a tag to compare
Release v0.16a Pre-release
Pre-release

This is just a bug fix necessary after I let a few bugs slip through along with all the new features in v0.16.

If you are using v0.16 (or even a v0.16a dated before 28th July), please use this one instead. Sorry this is necessary.

And, to make it worse, the binaries are now a couple of commits ahead of even this nominal level. More bugs... So, if building from source, please use trunk.

Mac users should still use the 32bit Carbon based version. The 64bit cocoa is getting better but still not quite ready IMHO. Otherwise, the choice should be obvious, if not, please contact us via the usual channels.

Users of recent Fedora (and possibly others) may need to install TopIcons, a gnome-shell-extension necessary because gnome 3.28 has left out such support. Please see the tomboy-ng wiki. https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Tomboy/tomboy-ng/BugsAndIssues
